Now that the big projects have been completed today was one of cleaning
internally and externally and small jobs around the boat, plus catch up on
email etc. It was a cooler day with some cloud but still 81 deg f high 20s
C, beets the snow and cold. Still in shorts and T shirt (maybe) the climate
this afternoon was ideal to bike into town to get our National Park Marine
Passes we decided to use the government office directly, as you would expect
this was an experience of a paper work trail which had us go to their office
and complete an initial set of papers (this was a couple of miles into town
then six blocks up off the harbor), then we sent to pay at any bank so we
road the rest of way back into town and down to water to the bank to pay,
and get a receipt, then it was a ride back to the first office to show the
receipt of payment and get the passes. This was not bad on bikes but would
have been a couple of hours effort on foot. But it is typical of bureaucracy
in my state of take it all as it comes like I use to in Africa and it was a
nice day out we just went with the flow. But decided on the way back that we
should drop in for starters and a beer at a local sea bar and watch the
world go by.
For those who do not realize we carry two Brompton fold up bikes on board,
(we have attachments for the kids as well so we can bike as a family) we
also have a fold up trailer that we can attach if we need to get groceries
etc. The Brompton (see the picture is a UK fold up bike unique and strong
and folds up 3 ways, with the swing back wheel, they use them on the London
Underground to come into the city. We have had them for years and used them
at Catalina, and Dana Point etc, giving us a good 15 mile range around the
boat not counting that we can quickly fold them up (3 to 5 minutes) and put
them on a bus as standard luggage. These combined with the kids attachments
allow us to explore and move with much more freedom, we will be using them
all over La Paz is built for bikes and is very enjoyable and more effective
than the car especially on the weekend nights when everyone seems to cruise
the streets so the car is slow.
Some guys came past with fresh shrimp so we bought some for $10 dollars and
it last 3 to 4 meals, we have then put them on the Barbie with some lime and
garlic and then had a beer with the sunset over the boat. See pictures and
you can see the boat in the slip in the middle and then a close up in the
fading sunset light.
Yes I am settling in!!!
