Today we sailed and motored sailed out of Turtle Bay and down the coast 50
miles to Bahia Asuncion (27:08.328N 114:17.369W),sun out initially wind off
the land so we got a bit of a sail then it died before swinging off the
stern and we could sail the last couple of hours. Flat sea, and full of sea
life we were followed by 5 whales for a couple of hours and then dolphins
off the bow(I can watch this for hours see photo). We caught 2 more fish one
being tuna which we added to our growing stocks of stored dinners, we also
tested running the water maker underway, and we were able to make another 80
gallons and top off all tanks, (we had run dry the past couple of days, as I
am still working out the use of water, but all running well, and just
topping off with 24 gallons and hour watermaker will now be a every 2 days).
We also must have run over a lobster pot of coming around cedros island to
turtle bay, we thought we had hit kelp. But I thought we had vibration and
sure enough we had rope around the prop, which I dived to clear (water was
surprisingly warm, glad we are south of Japanese current). We then after
anchoring had fresh tuna sushi and beer (just fantastic). We then decided we
needed to attempt to explore Asuncion and see if it has more life than
Turtle Bay township, again no restaurants/ bars open, but we met a local
"gold miner" who took us to his house and we bought beers and his family run
a local motel and we had lobster muchaka which was great, the people so
welcoming.
Today was a bit of everything, and tomorrow we have another 50 mile run on
to where we will see whales breeding in the lagoon, life goes on, stay
tuned.
