We woke up to the wind rattling through the rigging from our boat and those
around us, with the rattle, and then the whistle, as you peaked out you saw
the clouds and yes our plans of going to the fuel dock today went out the
window. Too much wind to risk pulling out of the slip, so we went to
breakfast, the weather coming through was the tail end to the storms they
have been seeing in southern California. To give you an idea two weeks ago
we were off Turtle Bay/ Cedros Island is calm mellow seas, today they had 35
+ knots and sees 22+ feet high, not a place to be, we would have been stuck
in Turtle Bay for a week or more, it is amazing how it changes. But this is
a reason why I am so pleased to be able to get regular updates on weather
and models so we can make decisions and be close to leading to safe
passages, and reducing risk.
It is interesting that the big news of the day is weather, it is updated
each morning, and basically we look out 4 days to adjust what plans we have
around the best weather, so things change to weather vs normal life where
weather is secondary to the duties you need to perform, and you just suffer
doing the task.
We did a ride the other direction out of town to explore possible beaches
for the kids to play, we found a great one not far away, and we can get
there by canoe or bike easily.
For the last night with Ed with me, we went into town on the bikes to a bar
down the promenade, which you go to the second floor and pull up a chair at
this low bar over looking the street you get some small starters and beers
and watch the world go by down the main street. On the other side you see
the a panga paddle past with 2 fishermen throwing out sardine nets and
hoping to catch some as the tide ebbs out. On the promenade people walk,
rollerblade, and bike young to old, just out on Friday night.
Now it's time to hit the sack, tomorrow we drive to Carbo in a hire car to
drop of Ed and collect the family, flights to La Paz are expensive and not
very frequent, it is much more timely to go to Carbo.
