We left La Paz after two weeks, filling up before we left with fuel so we
can go a couple of months, we cruised out of La Paz, we visited a number of
bays on the main land, and then the south of island, before arriving at
Caleta Partida (24:31.954N 110:22.852W). The trip up the coast of the island
brought back many memories of 10 years ago when Tracy and I kayaked these
bays for a week. I forgotten the distinct colors, the bright white, fine
sand, then the shades of blue/ green as the water gets deeper, with the
contrast of the red hills behind and the low hanging trees. This is a
volcanic island and therefore the geology is stunning, and bright, reminding
me a lot of Northern Australia. We are now anchored in a circular bay with
high hills circling us which use to edge of the cone, but the time has warn
a east and west passage we came in the west and the east is a sand bar with
a high tide channel between the two islands that make up what appears to be
one island. We went ashore with the family the temperature of the water is
ideal, so the boys explored the shallows finding treasures. I went off
gathering some clams, as it was an extreme low tide. As we cook dinner over
the west we have the sun setting over the mainland, and over to east a full
bright moon rises already shimmering over the water towards the boat. We
have 5 boats in the large bay, I suspect we will be here for a couple of
days exploring. You can see the photo of the sunset, and Sean doing the
passage listening to audio books which he loves, these are fantastic not
just for kids but also me when on watch as you can watch and beware while
loosing yourself in the story.
As I close I need to describe the scene the moon is now up, illuminating
against the cone hills surround high above us, the water is a yellow /
silver layer reflecting the full moon, and the 5 boats are black figures
gliding on this sliver layer, the odd star tries to be seen, and some of
small fish camps on the beaches we can see some lights (on these islands you
have shanty fish camps which the local panga fish men come out and stay
local to the fishing for a couple of days avoiding the long trip back on a
daily basis). It is nice to be back on the hook, with the family.
