an alarm clock so we hit the streets and still missed the planned bus to ski
fields, and went to Natural Museum (as the educational activity of the day)
we have found some good ones and this was small but effective and it is
amazing to see the boys get so excited, and then just ask questions, and
point and identify. This was one good as it had this side the Andes with
good birds and animals, as well as landscape diagrams which we could spend
time with Sean. After this we caught the bus up to Catedral Ski village 20
km away, the bus took 20 minutes at 3 dollars, and we arrived in a typical
ski village, with not much snow. But to say this is the biggest in Southern
hemisphere I think is pushing it as I suspect Thredbo (in Australia) and
even New Zealand have bigger, but never the less the mountains towered
above, so we caught the cable car up. This allowed us to get to the top of
the range and look over the peaks (see photos which still do not do
justice), and have a hot chocolate, the boys could play in some snow.
We missed the bus back so, we played around building snow men, who this the
boys enjoyed, simple but fun in great sunlight.
The mountains where superb clear skies and snow tops, looking down on the
lakes and lower valleys, I sat with a cold bock beer on a wooden verandah
looking out over the top of South America, such a simple way to relax.
Trip back down was breath taking as the sun glimmered off the lakes and
reflected off the white snow hills (they will not open the ski season next
week) but it was still a good day out. On arrival back we went to a café
with a carousel in the middle old but great, we paid $5 for an hour and the
boys just went around and around, and played (we have found a number of
Cafes/ bars which allow kids have a play area built in). Dinner was in
another one of these cafes, the boys playing and Tracy and I enjoyed a great
dinner (we have been here 3 times it is just around the corner) and great
wine (something we enjoying in both Chile and Argentina really good cheap
wine, a $5 bottle and it is good). To top it off we had live local Argentina
first grade rugby playing on TV, what could I ask for more.
A great day in the mountains, boys playing all day, dinner and great wine
and rugby, how the simple things make a a great day.
