As I look out of the window down on the deep blue ocean, and the ever
smaller green island disappearing behind us, I still sit in wonder, while
many questions have been answered and I under so much more, and appreciate
the magnitude of what the ancient people did, there are still so many
questions, which gives me topics to read. Last night we went back to park
and the sunset, (it must be one of the most beautiful parks, on the water,
surfers just in front), then to dinner to a small restaurant, run by a new
family to the island less than a year. But boys the same ago as ours so they
played while we ate some of the best food on this trip, they have come out
from Santiago, (his wife lived here as a child) to have the family grow up.
We went onto the place next door for final drinks, and ran into a Belgium
lady who built the restaurant with her husband, and we were able to find
about living on the island as she has been here 10 years, she said it nice
but very isolated, it is good for families. But we got talking and she also
lived for a number of years in Vanuatu off Australia, and a place both Tracy
and I have talked to many people about and we want to visit and cruise for
months, as it seems to fit our want for a cruising ground with many islands,
warm climate and people with culture, it was good to confirm this and chat,
and start another dream and planning.
Our trip to Easter Island (Papa Nui) has been one of high lights of this
year, the statues where fantastic, but so was the island, the atmosphere and
people, it is a place we could have stayed longer. It was good to see the
boys show so much interest in the statues and how they carved, if there was
a big thing that I had not realized is that these statues were carved out of
huge volcanic rock face each time, this was a revelation.
Now we fly back, having got inspiration now we head next week to Peru for
the next espisode.
