Coming up on cocktail hour (certainly afternoon tea), we find ourselves 15 miles off the coast(31:10.324N 116:33.622W) and is a “pea soup fog” this has been with us for the last 3 hours, and took away any chance of wind, so the motor is running, and we continue on. Radar and AIS on as you can see more than a boat length in front of the bow, but we have seen on a few targets (ships) on the AIS (automatic Identification System) and they were 14 miles away. The water is very flat, with ripples of slight breeze, both Ed and I have put out lines. Ed is using a hand line system, with a twittering bird, I have put out a small squid on my reel mounted on the aft rail, neither has seen any action, but we have 100s of miles to go. We have gone through kelp forests in 300 feet of water with their floats on the surface these are huge sea trees. The day has been restful reading and dozing off at times, I am using audio books as well, (great for night shift) and then my “Kindle” is a great success. Tracy and boys are in Vail, having their first day in the snow staying with Wendy, they are up there for two weeks as we head down the coast, should give Sean a good chance to learn how to ski. Tracy will get a good deserved rest after the last month of preparation to leave which both Tracy and I under estimated the effort and amount of strings that tie you to the dock. Good news at lunch that Mum ha come through her operation last night well, and was sitting up to a good breakfast, this is good relief and our thoughts go out to her rapid recovery. Cath my sister was able to call and text in, keep me aware.

Still getting the SSB under control, but with the weather coming down via Sat phone we are well aware of the up coming weather or lack of it.

Steve is preparing Chilli for dinner combine this with the on board heating this is more like a cruise liner, Ed is asleep face down on the bunk, we are still 3 hours away from first shift.

Stay tuned
