Location: Puerto Natales Southern Chile, Chile (51:48.43S 72:30.40W)
As the lines were pulled tight and the ferry did a long maneuver to pull the
ferry in parallel with the dock, lots of lines and engine work, lucky it was
calm, but the sun broke through and eliminated the scene. Natales is
surprisingly flat, it is town on a plain along side this lake/ fjord of
water, with mountains 10 miles or so surrounding it all snow capped. A
bitter wind blew as we walked up town, off the ferry in hunt of the hotel.
It was 2 pm by the time we got off the ferry after all the cargo, you will
see photos of the ferry the big red hull. After securing the hotel, (we
offered a taxi by a guy but he did not know the hotel or could fit our
luggage, so the walk was better and we found the play ground so the boys
were happy. We were able to get the laundry done at a nearby Laundromat
service (they do not seem to have coin) operated laundries here, and we made
it out for an early dinner coming back as the wind picked up in the streets
and came through you like a knife, but the town looked nice developed a lot
since Tracy was here 10 years ago.
Dinner was salmon native from the area, and was superb, we have seen many
salmon farms, eating fish around here is like Alaska plenty of options,
cheap and good and fresh.
Plenty of rest needed tonight as no afternoon nap for the team.
The photos are from the second half of boat trip, you sea the Torres Del
Paine towers from the water, and the narrow part we run through, plus the
every dramatic landscape around.
