we took the kids to a big local park with rides, it was the locals
recommendation and the place really filled up with locals and their kids, no
tourists at all. Sean was doing the big slides and Alex enjoyed steering a
plane around and around, but it was the first park for them in 2 weeks, and
allowed them to run around, with their activities.
The part I liked was getting to see what many of Cusco families do on a
Saturday, especially when the weather is so nice, then we found a
recommended café for lunch called "Jack's Place". It was full, and a waiting
line outside, with full justification once we got in the food was superb,
and atmosphere.
The afternoon was watching the World Cup with other travelers, there are a
band of us who attend the games and we are from all over. It is nice to be
around the old back packer crowd plus there are many who have just taken 6
months to a year off, and just travelling similar to us, no real hurry and
we all seam to be liking Cusco, and the atmosphere/ climate.
Dinner we took a recommendation from some Australians who have been
travelling nearly a year in South America, and went to a Spanish Tapas bar,
a favorite of Tracy's and mine when in Spain. This was authentic with garlic
hanging from the ceilings and the food prepared in front of you while you
sat the bar, without a doubt some of the best food in the last 6 months.
Like I chat to many of the people at the soccer games, everyone coming to
South America comes to Cusco, so it is a meeting spot, but due to train,
mudslide situation this year many people have delayed coming here, so many
of us longer term travelers are at the end of 6 to 10 month travelling and
all are using Cusco as a wind down, becoming apart of the locals, and very
happy with the atmosphere before we go on.
This is so important and such a critical part of travelling which we often
miss when on business, or set short term packages. Just walking in the
streets around the main plaza today, I was going down streets with Inca
buildings on each side sloping at the 15 % for counter earth quakes, these
stones are original going up a floor and then Spanish on top. The markets,
the food stalls on the corners, and then the chant of the soccer as everyone
is following it from all ages and in every store, it forms a great bonding
event.
