Yesterday started with John (from Sunsation) and I having breakfast at the
Banana Bay Marina (an old colonial style place open area next door) and then
we caught the first of 12 taxi trips for the next 4 hours while we went
around the 4 government offices to complete check in formatilities into
Costa Rica(we have been travelling in Costa Rica for the last 5 weeks not
officially here). Port Captain was warm a welcomed us and told us to
immigration, she was nice and very effective but we had to get 4 copies of
everything for the 4 departments, and then have her stamp them, so we had to
find a photo copy place. Then it was Quarantine which we then had to go and
pay a fee at a bank then come back, then on to customers who said she did
not want page of our passport but every page including blank pages, so back
to photo copy place (across town) and then we got through customers, before
return to Port Captain to get final acceptance 4 hours of moving around, but
we knew town by the end of it.
Golfito is a town with nearly one street, everything hugs the bay, it is
famous for Bananas in this the past, now it is the hub of Southern Costa
Rica, with a back drop of the wildlife sanctuary running behind it.
Today we went into town with the boys found the super market and play ground
and then we explored town a bit, which was nice, it is funny old wooden town
built from what ever people wanted. You catch taxis up down the main road.
You can see from the photos where the boys are sitting at verandah of the
Cruisers lounge at Land and Sea marina looking out on Gijima at anchor. The
rest of the photos show some of the water line of and buildings of Golifito.
The mornings are dry afternoons wet, so my water tanks are full, it is
currently raining, but Tracy and the boys are sleeping as everyone is tired
after this week on passages and early starts with rolly anchorages, here it
is calm, and we need 3 days of recovery.
I am getting through many of preparation jobs and we booking some land
travel to explore inland and the national parks while we have a safe place
for the boat.
Stay tuned
