Why does it happen always when you just get to bed or sleep

Last night as I tucked away in my bed, and within the hour the thunder clapped loud outside, the wind came up. I got out of my bed (can't say warm bed as everything is warm, but I was dozing off) and went up into the cockpit to find a good thunderstorm moving rapidly across the bay. The moon was hidden behind the clouds, but you could differing levels of grey and black and it was black, and lightening all around across the bay. Not knowing the local storms, I decided to take down the forward boat cover to take out wind age, as I did this the wind came up to 20 knots making the job more interesting. The key thing to understand our little sheltered bay usually a "lee shore" had just turned in to a "Windward" shore, NOT Good, it means that the wind and any waves generated are pushing you onto the closest shore to you, this is far from ideal. The wind did not rise much above 20knots but the rain started and lightening high up in the clouds lit up the sky, and the thunder kept us awake. But it moved quickly and was local, and before long it was over us and past, I had been outside a number of times by this time making all things were secure, and getting the cover down. Tracy woke and peered up the companion way to say "what are you doing?", "just making sure we stay safe " I replied as I turned on the chart plotter to set up an anchor watch alarm, a good friend in these situations.
But in an hour it was all past, now wet, well awake I returned to bed.
But the question is why does it always wait until you are comfortable or a sleep to happen.
Today Tracy went back into town to provision as one of the guys was going in, I had the day with the boys trying to catch fish, lots of fun, with little success.
This evening we all went up to marina for happy hour which was lovely and worth the trip will do it again, Sean drove the family in the dinghy and he did very well especially at night, controlling direction and sped well.
Tonight it is moon out (full moon) and stars, the bay is like a "mill pond" and we can for the first time here the disco about 2 miles away(yest it is Friday night).
