We travelled up to San Salvador today with Jorge, as the buses were off the
road with Gang issues due to new laws that are designed to restrict their
activities.
But we checked into a Marriott Courtyard which is attached to an upmarket
safe set of malls, honest the area is like been in parts of New Port or
Randburg in South Africa.
It was clear that this was a different side of El Salvador reminding both
Tracy and I of South Africa, of living in a life in Cape Town of going to
Victoria Wharf for a night or Joburg's East Gate or Randburg waterfront. The
food stores are all western, and high quality and 30 + different ones to
choose from. We did an Irish pub at lunch, and then a Japanese with coking
in front of us (great for the kids). Both where as good as we have seen in
any other part of the world, and the malls are huge, and high class stalls.
The boys enjoyed the activities with trains, mini golf, inverted bungee
(which Sean loved) and then, and fun just running around in a western
environment.
While we enjoy the culture of central America it is nice every so often to
get this luxury, tomorrow Sean as a group kids violin lesson and then we go
out to explore some food markets in the mountains should be interesting.
