Into the third day of intense Spanish, we spent the morning going and seeing
a village along the lake with Tracy's Spanish teacher. This was an outing
that gave us a chance to see a local place with a local, and also ask
questions and work on Spanish outside the class room but with him close by.
Sean is coming a long fast, and just absorbing it, we will have to keep it
up for the next 6 weeks back in El Salvador with him playing with local
boys.
Tracy is on the grammar up hill, and also having the challenge of getting
back into study for 4 to 5 hours a day, plus she is suffering with allergies
from the hotel in Antigua which had bad blankets.
But we are all working it, and just been in this beautiful environment, and
exploring the stores, scenery and villages, while also treating as a Spanish
camp for 8 days. It will help for the rest of the year, and it is getting
our brains working hard again.
My self training, on the computer, then streets, is complimented with the
odd 3 hour lesson to help clarify points, this is the way I study and it is
working. We met some Australians who have been here 8 months doing volunteer
work and they just said keep using it and practicing it comes.
The village we visited today was 15 km along a very windy cliff hanging
road, that has been washed away in a number of places. This town San
Antonia was effected by Agatha Tropical storm in may, with 12 being killed
and it is not surprising when you look at the steep sides, and the
landslides we saw as we went around. The eye of the storm came directly over
the lake and speaking with the volunteers they are really effected here,
many have half structures and lost the rest of house in the landslides, many
have started to slide but stopped but if there was more major rain they
would be washed away.
The boys enjoyed seeing the weaving today, and we caught a pick truck with
all the locals to get to location, made for an interesting trip.

Stay tuned.
