As I sit in Lima, Peru and watched the soccer this morning seeing Australia
fight hard for a good win, but not good enough to go through, and then
seeing the politics where a existing Prime Minister was ousted in a matter
of 24 hours and replaced, it makes you feel far away.
But we went on to visit a port suburb today of La Punta based on the locals
advise, it is a old colonial area with colonial lovely houses in different
states of repair, water on each side this little peninsular is only 3 blocks
wide. We visited the Lima , Peru Yacht Club, we did not find Eric, but we
had a look around. The anchorage is large and calm, good holding, and there
is a good travel lift and the place is very welcoming and seems very
helpful. It is separate from the main cargo port, and there is a good amount
of local sail boats, which is nice if you came in. The other part is there
is a good pier to come up to with the dinghy, and then this safe a nice
suburb which is not too rushed, and has a good atmosphere. The suburb
reminds me of many port areas that are now becoming "trendy" and the houses
are being done up, they are all different colors and the streets are well
looked after, and the local council seams to be doing a good up marketing.
This afternoon the sun came out so the boys and Tracy went down the parks on
the cliffs over hanging the beach, while I spent a couple of hours on calls,
and internet sorting out travel for the next month. We now head to Cusco and
onto machu picchu for 2 weeks this should be spectacular, then back to Lima
before flying out for 2 weeks in Galapagos Islands, (another place I have
always wanted to get to).
It is interesting to spend an afternoon doing this (frustrating) but I
achieved it, years ago when I first started this would have taken 2 days of
calls, going to agencies and airlines, now it is all on line, you can do
calls, and do the research, quickly. At star bucks yesterday a lot of the
back packers all had laptops, un heard of even when I opened the "The Back
Packers Ritz of Jo Burg" in the 90s, it's a good change, but also takes a
lot of engagement with the locals away.
But now we move on after a very productive 3 days in Lima.
