Sean stuck is head out the window this morning an exclaimed "snow, snow" so
comes the reaction from boys who have been in the snow 3 times, once on a
Glacier just Mt Whiney in Alaska, in Vail where they learnt to ski earlier
in the year, and then on the way down here at a Glacier. We are in Bariloche
it is the ski capital of South America, yester it was sun shine, today it
has lightly snowed most of the day.
May the ski season will come a few days early and open this weekend, as we
would like to get the boys up there again this week.
The part I like is watching the snow, and then the lake surrounded by
mountains in the back ground, and the town busy to go to work around us. We
headed out for coffee and found a restaurant with an indoor playground, this
was a huge hit and allowed us to relax as well.
I had a chance to read some of the other sailing blogs today of boats we
have met on the way, and many like us are approaching 6 months out, but we
have lived on the boat longer than all, but many are saying that their kids
are just getting into the grove of living on a boat. I suspect that was an
advantage we had the boys only know GIJIMA as home, and they love it, and
know that a dinghy ride means life jacket, and they are comfortable with it,
they know when we under way they do not go outside the cockpit unless with
us. They have also slid into the land travel very happy with hotel rooms,
and flying, it is all apart of the adventure.
But as I wandered down the street this afternoon, looking for a bus
timetable and how to get to the ski area by local transport, I had a real
feeling of satisfaction and I was very relaxed. Also another sign for me if
I start dreaming of past places and times (last nigh Eygpt when I lived
there) this is usually a sign that I have really unwound and are relaxed,
while I have been at different levels of relaxation and separation from the
busy Southern Californian life style, I believe I have just past another
point. Back in the 80s/ early 90s I use to love putting my back on and just
heading out of airport and feeling free and my whole world is around me and
in control, yet I did not know where I was going and did not care it was
apart of the adventure. That feeling has returned, even though I have a
plan, we are very happy with it, and comfortable with the lifestyle and
decisions we have made, maybe it has taken us as a family longer to get
there. I suspect it is another level of simplification of lifestyle has been
achieved, where decisions become simple, people had said you would go
through it, certainly when I was single it was easy to get there, but again
many cruisers have found happiness once they had things simple, we are
certainly getting there. We have a day to day cost only, so I am back to
paying cash, we have plans going out a month, but not strict, education of
the kids is going well, and works when we travel, we know where we are going
(Australia) many of the loose ends are coming closed, the more and more we
are away, it is a nice feeling!!!
So as the sun sets the snow is still falling, the boys are playing, Tracy
has gone to Yoga, and I have a great novel!!!
Stay tuned.
