How the sun changes the view n a port, the water shimmered he mountains to
the south rose above the blue foot hills, the sun reflecting off the
mountains of snow, as I turned the clouds cleared behind the town, showing a
the steep rock sides and snow. After checking into the ferry down at the
port with the bags I wandered back along the water front taking in the very
calm, lake like water on my right with a new boat at anchor and it just
reflected against water.
As you would expect the ferry is delayed by 4 hours on leaving due to a
cargo vessel wanting off load from Santiago being delayed due to the
Earthquake earlier this week, so as arrived at the port it was late
afternoon, the stalls along the road were open selling woolen clothing and
carvings, the wood/ coal smoke drifted over head as there was no wind, from
the heating of small wooden houses that lined the hills around the harbor,
the heating had turned on.
We boarded the ferry, (not a cruise liner) it is a working ferry, with cars,
trucks loaded with camels, so it is closer to the Noah Arc, but we found our
cabin, with 4 bunk beds , in built shower and head, and the boys love it,
climbing up and down.
As we pulled out the dark fell and the lights of Puerto Montt rose, as well
as the surrounding islands and bays. We stood on the foredeck admiring a
peaceful exit and the use of the anchor as a bow thruster to pull the bow
around, worked well.
We glided out of the harbor in a near still night and dark, as I looked
above us the Southern Cross and Pointers indicated were heading south, a
nice feeling, not too cool but dark, but clear skies.
No rocking and a good salmon meal and now we back at sea, heading down a
calm channel for at least a day.
Lets see what it has in store tomorrow.
