We have been here 2 nights, and 2 days, resting, spending time in the pool
and discussing with others here what the lay of the land is. All the
cruisers here are mainly here for the wet season eg 6 months waiting the
window to go south to go through the canal or go east. This is our plan as
well to avoid the heavy long rains and lightening in Costa Rica, so Tracy
has just realized that she needs to think when we can travel.
So today was spent:
1/Easter Hunt for the boys on the island in the middle of the swimming pool.
2/Violin Lessons for Sean
3/ Pool time with the boys as Tracy caught up on the computer which we found
some Macros birds which are very colorful and the boys love them
4/ The afternoon was spent looking into travel to South America very
frustrating sorting out flights, still plenty of time needed on this one
before we have plan lucky we have time.
Bahia De Sol is very relaxing as one cruiser put it, "it is a cruiser's
holiday location" you don't have to worry about the boat, and everything is
close, and the estuary is very calm. As you will find in the photos, we are
docked on a floating dock, during the change of tide the water is doing 5
+knots so is more like a river, which is interesting as you get a surge with
you. The docks are locally built timer docks but work. We have on stilts at
the end of the dock the bar, which you can get food and drinks, this is on a
wharf deck, and totally open with a roof so is out of the sun but gets the
breeze. This is nice that we get a breeze most of the time, and then it is
a short walk to the pool, which has a island in the middle. This is all part
of a hotel which extends over the peninsula to the beach, where there is
another pool.
The atmosphere is great, as the cruisers all meet on the dock bar and pool,
use the internet and discussing things and plans, it is like a family which
is nice, especially now that Easter has past. We are still settling in and
exploring so expect updates. There are US people who have just stopped here
and set up businesses and made this very cruiser friendly and cruisers are
welcome.
It was nice this morning to wake to clear skies and over to port side over
the water we could see a volcano rising high, and in the cone was the white
steam cloud, reminding us that we in a country with more volcanoes for size
than any other country.
Gary met a guy here who is working on a wooden boat who comes from the yard
he has his boat in back in Newport Beach, and today he and Dan (his friend )
took an old truck with some locals into San Salvador to collect boat parts
and timer, Gary went along to gain experience El Salvador, and that he did.
They broke down no less than 15 times, and this included in the middle of
the main street and not just once. He saw negotiations on fixing the truck,
and he worked on some parts for me, which are some minor changes I want to
make. (We lost the support for the two out boards the plastic board broke so
we now going timber and slightly bigger, so we have a 6 x 2 maple piece
coming. He arrived back red in the face from riding in the back of the truck
for an hour each way and pushing the truck.
We have included some photos of the bar area.
Will add more on describing this place tomorrow.
