After a very calm night and good sleep we woke to a city buzzing around us
with car horns, sirens, and the sun started to beat down (there is little
wind in the water). Tracy and I had done what we wanted to do in Acapulco
that was (see the old town, cliff jumpers, and get a good nights rest), and
we have a nice weather window to head on the next leg, so Tracy really just
said lets take the opportunity, and get to Hautluco and stop there for a
week or so. Huatluco is an important mile stone as it is where we will check
out of Mexico, it is where we need to wait for a weather window to cross the
Gulf of Tehauntepec (which I will do a blog on latter but it rates as one of
7 worst pieces of water to cross in the world). But Huatluco also seams to
have some very nice bays , parks and beaches to visit and is developing into
a great holiday, eco tourism area, since it has a marina we should get calm
nights and we can rest (as the next leg will be 480 nM (3 nights)), and
relax and explore. We may drop into a small port before Huatluco if we find
our timing does not work and puts us into Huatluco at night.
We are going along nicely in 3 foot seas at 14 seconds, and a 8 knot wind so
we motor sailing, but I am trying a new rig with the genie and whisker pole
and it seems to be working well, we have caught 3 bonito this morning (good
entertainment for the boys). We are 2 miles off the coast and heading across
a gulf and everything is going well, will add more thoughts this afternoon.
