Its early morning on Tuesday and I was up getting the weather, the morning
ritual (like many of you with news paper) my morning is getting the weather
downloaded and making an assessment, and listening to BBC World service
news,(this is my connection with the outside world). And I had to describe
the scene here. There are about 30 boats anchored spread out along the beach
for 1 mile. To the west end of the bay you have a hooked headland with
gentle wooded hills rising from the brown rocks, it's a thick set of low
lying well branched and vines wooded area that brings a nice green effect.
This is the calm section of the bay, and a lot of boats like us are bunched
up here as the hook straightens out you run into some rocks acting as reef/
entry to the small jungle creek that goes up into beaches behind. To the
right the beach rolls out with gentle point break with a row of palm trees
lining along the back of the beach, with the hills rising up behind.
The water is green, aqua color but very clear and inviting, the temperature
is 86 F with a slight breeze. The morning is spent on the boats for the
first couple of hours doing home schooling, before the days activities on
the beach and water start.
The day for the family was on the beach with Endurance kids and Zada playing
in the river entrance, both Sean's and Alex's confidence is growing in the
water, Sean is diving well but is getting into surfing Alex is growing
confident in his ability to float and swim even though he has been in water
for since he was 8 weeks, there is barrier they pass through, he will do it
beneath the palm trees.
I spent the morning making water, running the generator and working through
a list of maintenance checks and items, including rewiring the bilge pumps,
tomorrow I will dive the boat cleaning the bottom and checking zincs. Mid
afternoon I got the dinghy out and sail well out into the bay picking up
good wind and enjoyed exploring the coast line in the dinghy, it is pleasure
to have time and ability to get back into dinghy sailing, IO loved when I
was small suspect I will love it when I bigger! I went out round the coats
the boat sails well, and had some friends on Endurance use it they loved it,
this will be hit as Sean and Alex can learn to sail as well as it is a good
transport dinghy.
Tonight we had the crews from Windward Bound (long time friends from
Catalina island ridden out a couple of 8-0 knot + storms with them before),
and Ethan and Nancy with Zada for movie night on our boat,, it is so nice to
have two boats who we have long heritage with and enjoying their company
again. Talking new place to go stories over the last 3 years travels. A big
discussion point was breaking free, and the effort to leave and now your
free the effort to rejoin or if you should some very good points.
Lots more time to debate, like the crossing with kids stay tuned for the
debate to continue.
Our plans are a couple more days here before we leave and then we move fast
over the next 1000 miles.
