First day of climb to the top of Stromboli 930 m was into a cold and wind cloud and could not see anything at all, but second day the weather was perfect. Very nice guides from www.magmatrek.it (you are not allow to climb above 400 m without joining a guided tour).
They fill their tour (maximum 20 people per group) quite quickly so it's better to make reservation early in the morning or by phone.
Ask to join a group making the longer rout to the north along the Sciara d'u Fuocu ridge and passing  by the "observatory" a restaurant with a night view on the north side.
It is a bit more hard than the default route but with a much better view along the climb.
The descent is common to the over route and is after having reached the summit.
Bring warm clothes, long pants, hat and wind-breaker. Necessary equipment are climbing shoes and an head light since the descent will be done after sun-set.
Is possible to rent or buy shoes and head light from a shop in the main square.
Is getting very very cold and you spend quite a bit of time not climbing but waiting for the eruptions, in our case there were about 20-30 minutes apart.
