Last night we anchored at Playa de la Sueca on the
Island of Contadora in the Las Perlas Islands. It was to this island that the
Shah of Iran retired when he was thrown out of Iran by the mad mullahs. The
island is the playground to Panama's rich and famous and has been known since
the Spanish invaded in 1493 as the home of the biggest pearls. Mary Queen of
Scots had one as does Elizabeth Taylor; a gift from Richard Burton. The
Spaniards slaughtered all the islanders in the late 16th century to ensure they
had all the pearls and to gather them they bought slaves from
Africa.
Caught a beautiful tuna, enough to feed 6 of us
last night and lunch today for Irene & I.
Today we are headed for Isla San Jose for the night
and then cross to Ecuador over the next few days.
Cheers JH
