Whew, a long drive today.
Verdy met us at 7am for the 10 hour drive to Jogjakarta. We
discovered that Java is very highly populated, apparently 1000 people per sq km
(Papua New Guinea has 7 per sq km!). We had about 10 minutes of toll
highway, then the rest was towns, villages, potholes, roadworks and bonkers
driving for 12 hours! We are not quite on the right wavelength with
Verdy yet, we thought we had explained that we want to go where there’s not many
tourists and see “real” places. In fact, he’s brought us to an
uber-expensive (in Indonesia terms) mausoleum of a place with a ridiculously
lavish but run down suite of rooms, and a restaurant that we had to
persuade them to open for us!
Pictures of today’s journey, and more of yesterday’s eggy lunch, (our noses
were still full of the sulphur pong this
morning!) |
