On the way to Perth we climbed a BIG TREE!  We drove through Karri forest, a lot of which has been clear felled but now there are big efforts to conserve it and use plantation wood instead.  Some of the trees are ancient and huge.  They use the biggest trees as fire lookouts (helicopters more, nowadays), and we climbed a 55m one, at Manjimup.  There wasnt much in the way of safety nets, just a wire mesh on the outside of the ladder, I can’t imagine this happening in the UK!
