Aspendos

Very tired today after our weird night – but we have done the ruins at Aspendos, a Roman town with a restored amplitheatre, but it is SO HOT.  There  are 3 camels sitting outside, for camel rides, and the poor so and so’s have their mouths sellotaped up.

We got lucky because tonight was the start of the Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival, and we were treated to a glittering performance of Carmen.  In case anyone is interested, the conductor was Attilio Tomasello, Carmen was Ozlem Abaci, the Soldier was Ali K Aybar, and the Toreador was Tayfun Gokce.  I could hardly believe that we were in that 2000 year old auditorium, hearing and seeing this spectacle, and looking up at the black sky.
