Another long drive today, to Barkly Homestead.  We spoke to the lady serving in the Elliott store on the way down, I asked her if she had a nice Christmas, and she said it was a very sad one.  A close friend had been killed on the highway.  We wished her all the best and left, Sandy had read about this in the NT News, the story was that the man was lying in the highway, drunk, and people left him there.  A road train hit him.  The message of the newspaper article was “you’ve got to look after your mates”.  Very sad story.

We hit the end of the cyclone, thought we had seen the end of it!  Strong wind and a solid wall of water for about half an hour.  And we have just heard that the Katherine River has flooded and the road we came down is now closed, with loads of people stranded on the highway.  2 people had their car washed off the Katherine bridge at 2am and had to wait till dawn clinging to trees before they were rescued (crocs in the river!!!)
