We are sitting having a beer in the Karijiji National Park, it is 6pm and the temperature is tolerable, but it’s been HOOOOOT and we spent much of yesterday, and most of today, paddling around, swimming, reading and painting in the shade at the foot of the Fortescue Falls.  We are proud of ourseelves as we did a bush walk yesterday down the Dales Gorge to the Circular pool (DEEP gorge) and this morning Knox gorge (even deeper) so we earned our swim.

A really interesting observation – in spite of the flies and the 40+ temps, it’s quite busy, and we are surrounded, not by grey nomads in mobile palaces, but by mad dogs, Englishmen, and quite a few Germans, Japanese and French, all under 40, who are camping like us and don’t seem to mind the midday sun at all.
