This is what we have been waiting for a ...real..... carnival , we moved the boat around to St Georges so as we would be in a better posotion to get to all the activities , our first 'doo' was as guests of the Port Louise Marina , to a pool party , this was a nice sedate affair ( to begin with ) but then the 'rum runner' turned up spilling out 400 or so locals who had been doing that, running the rum for the last 4 hours , they were in various states of hilarious ...... we all mingled exceedingly well great start to the carnival , |
we all left later in the evening to go and watch the panorama which was set in the big stadium and we saw 9 bands of steel pans all of who had about 85 people in each band , it was a real spectacle and we really enjoyed it .
oue next 'doo' was a lucky one , the Marina hosts a veritable whos who of Grenadas great and beautiful people in a very elite party for 600 , just so happens to be a rotary 'doo' so who managed tickets? drawback was we had to dress up and the heat index had gone through the roof at over a 100 degrees on the shade but hey , whos complaining? It was lovely , and we ate faboulous creole food .
The next 'doo' was the Jouvee which takes place in the early part of monday morning or Black Mas , this is when everyone runs the streets smearing paint and engine oil over other groups and people are chained up , very pagen , but everyone is very respectful , apologies about some of the photos , its not porn this is a local dance done to very loud music , everyone is very tolerant , so now are we !
Tuesday is the day of the main event the coulorfull Mas but ... it is the rainy season and unfortunately monsoon rains fell for 5 hours and there were flash floods everywhere , so it was called off ... but we still have it to come tomorrow .. watch this space ....
