The excitement was running high on the morning of our departure to Madeira , we were all working hard getting the boat ready for sea with everthing safely stowed away and we left Lagos through the 8 am bridge and we were finally off ,the sun was out and we had about 11-15 knots of wind and things were looking really good , but as we approached cape st vincent the seas started to build along with the wind , we reefed down and headed out into the atlantic ,but within 3 hours the seas were 5mtres and still building the crew had succumbed to violent seasickness and with another possible 3 days to go, we were worried that with exhaustion and the possibility of severe dehydration that we should turn back . We arrived back in Lagos about 9 hours later all safe and all intact ready to implement plan B ( Gary , Kathryn and Joe only had return flights from Madeira!)So the next morning we went to a cafe for a huge fry up while we made some decisions of what to do , Gary managed to get some flights for the following thursday , and with the temperature up in the 30s we decided to move east for a while in the calm seas on the Algarve .
