We decided to keep things easy for today so we took a gentle meander up the coast to Portomao , we did a little fishing , caught a few sardines for our supper and arrived about 5 pm to drop anchor inside the breakwater , which is a reconised safe anchorage , I had heard stories of boats being moved on in the evenings so I decided not to drink anything, so all the rest of the crew started a very relaxed evening with plenty of wine and a lovely long bbq which took most of the evening , by about 9-15 the sun set was spectacular , I knew we wouldn't get moved on in the dark and the anchorage was full so I had a glass or two of wine , the stories were in full flow along with the wine and our laughter was infectious, BUT!!! we then saw two black police lanuches systemactically approaching each yacht and boarding some , and then one by one they brought up their anchors and left , now what would we do , by 1o -15 we were apprached and told that we had to move , Mark was great , he was very humble and called them all sir! and explained that we haad had far too much to drink and it wouldn't be safe to move ! well they had probably heard most excuses but this one was obviousley true and it really threw them, they were joined by the other boat also black and they were armed to the teeth and they told us we had to move and Mark again explained we couldn't , it wouldn,t be safe , at this point the captain said he would have to breathalise us ! but Mark said that was fine and would prove that we shouldn't move , after but frantic interaction among the police we were told we could stay but we had to leave by 6 am in the morning ! result ! we slept peacefully , the only yacht in the whole area , bliss !
