We were ready , the boat was ready , so why was youngest son not ready ? We had a phone call hours before he was supposed to be travelling to Gatwick to get his flight , that he could not find his passport .......... we were all gutted ......now what ? he turned the house upside down to no avail , we were helpless at this end , he eventually called a friend at uni to just have a quick look in his room and guess what .... his passport was there ... he now had to get back to Wales at breakneck speed and then back to london in time for his flight , what a nightmare , anyway he did make it , just....... We had a couple of days to let him adjust to the heat and life on the boat as we are at anchor and it can roll around a bit and then yesterday we took an all day island tour , the driver was great and very knowledgable about all the fruit and nuts growing by the side of the road , he stopped and let us see , smell and touch all sorts of things , from cherries that you can use as a glue to cashews and the fragrant leaves of the ylang ylang . We stopped at a waterfall and were able to swim in the cool clear pool , there were guys that would jump off the highest point for a pound and for your entertainment ...mad.... We now headed further up into the hills and thankfully it was a bit cooler there and we stopped and a veiwing point and Cutty the driver said if we were lucky we might see some wild monkeys and boy were we lucky , Barry was luckier than most ... We then headed to the north of the island to have some lunch in a plantation house which was local creole food , just delicious, after lunch we had a short stroll to a rum factory , this factory and the way the rum has been made hasn't changed sice the 18th century and they haven't modernised so as to keep everyone employed , just facinating but really filthy , even in the fermention vats there were cockroaches floating , but as the rum is distilled doesn,t really matter . ,we had a sample , very very strong , I declined as the guide assured me it would put hair on my chest , and I don't want any....... we headed off again to a nutmeg factory , in the hurricane of 2004 the nutmeg trees were decimated , and 18 factories have closed , we were shown how the nutmeg is dried and processed for a facory it was very peacefull and almost pre-war , after a quick visit to one of the most beautiful beaches on the island and a drink in Cuttys liming bar ( a roadside bar where you drink and talk , we finally arrived back to the boat , it was a lovely day Windows Live Messenger just got better.
