Apologies for the radio silence over the past three days – but computers have been the furthest thing from our collective minds aboard Aqulia. There’s simply too much else going on…
Sarah, Nicky and Hugh arrived as planned on Monday evening, and by Tuesday morning were soon enjoying the pleasures of the Vigo fish market (phot) and local cafes (phot). A three hour beat in perfect conditions then found us anchored off what is, according to the Daily Telegraph’s very recent article, ‘the best beach in Spain’ (phot) – the main one on the east coast of Ilas Cies. The barbie was soon in commission (phot), and those langoustines sizzling (phot).

Wednesday morning we forayed ashore – the mate got gophered as we negotiated the surf (negative phot!). Nicky and Hugh got romantic (phot), we found dramatic scenery (phot), wild flowers galore (phot), a mini Stonehenge (probably c.1 day old - phot) and a watering hole (phot). And an even better beach (phot). Then a 10 mile beat in the usual sparkling conditions (phots) to an anchorage off Porto Novo (phots), on the north shore of the mouth of Ria de Pontevada. A swim in water that only took your breath away for the first 30 seconds, and you can guess where those sardines (phot) were soon bound for….

Thursday. As the skipper taps this out the crew are still snoring…..assuming he can eventually wake them, the plan today is for a marina stop for domestics such as shopping for food, showers etc before further exploration of the ria. So we beg for forgiveness if we don’t blog on a daily basis….
