After a very leisurely morning enjoying the tranquillity of our snug anchorage in the NW corner of Loch Spelve, a lovely sail had we on Friday up the Sound of Mull to Tobermorey on the first of the fair tide. With the NW5-6 bang on the nose once we had rounded Duart Point, two slabs in the main and 6 rolls in the genoa kept us at a steady 6.5 kts, but the inevitable bagginess of the genoa furls made the tacking angles rather wide.

We steadily tacked our way the 20 miles up the Sound, past fantastic scenery:

With the rain holding off and tea all round – and the very last of Rosalie’s fruit cake:  thank you again Rosalie! – crew morale remained high.

The wind gradually eased, allowing full main with one slab, and with Aquila now pointing much higher progress was truly storming in the flat water.  By 2015 we were nosing our way into Tobermory, and found a snug berth in the little marina.

A fantastic sausage pasta by Pippa rounded off another great day.

Saturday morning was spent dhobying ourselves and clothes, storing and watering ship.  With the wind currently in the south but due to veer to west this evening and blow hard from that quarter tomorrow, we are now heading to Tiree in anticipation of Pippa’s flight out of there on Monday.
