Sunday 22 May, 14:20. Departure from Poole YC was a jolly affair, after an enjoyable lunch in the YC. As can be seen in the photo, the Bennett family, friends and neighbours were well represented but we were disappointed by the lack of brass instruments.
We adhered to the carefully honed plan for at least an hour: anchor in Studland bay until midnight and then catch the tide and improving favourable winds. Best laid plans are, of course, for changing. Approaching Studland, we had an early sniff of the anticipated NWly, and the consensus was to use it and set off without further ado for France! By 1545 we had set full main and genoa. A beautiful evening hard on the wind (good initiation for the new genoa) and night with a near-full moon, if a tad chilly. The manufacturers of Stugeron failed to deter a spot of mal de mer amongst the crew, to the benefit of the fish!
