Another excellent days sailing, with 155 miles
covered from noon to noon. If progress continues like this we'll be home within
a week!
Last night's meal saw the first of the tins come
out of the scuppers. Everyone looked ominously over the chefs shoulder as the
dreaded mixture was poured ino the pan...the resut was an unexpectedly delicious
ravioli and salad and the crew slipped into night watch mode with full
stomachs!
The last 24 hours have seen little excitment in the
way of ships, however a number of other exciting events have taken place. AQUILA
is currently sailing across the Sohm Abyssal Plain, with over 5000 meters of sea
water below the keel. Along with this, the cew have been ordered by the captain
to alter course TWICE to a new heading of 090. This is due to a predicted
low that is currently building off Long Island Sound, and will probably reach us
around mid-day...bringing with it winds of up to 35 knots! The alteration
of course should mean that it will pass to the north of us and we will be spared
the worst it has to offer. We'll let you know tomorrow!
