Our apologies to all our avid readers for our
delayed final blog. We blame Tim and Anne entirely - on arrival alongside
Poole Yacht Club they insisted on opening another bottle of bubbly, and it
seemed to go down hill from there!
Suffice to say we had a fabulous sail from
Dartmouth to Poole on Wednesday. Tom enjoyed a final breakfast in bunk,
courtesy of the skipper - he said that the head chef had trained him
well!
![]() With a following wind, calm seas, bright sunshine,
and our home port just around the corner - it does not get any better than
that! With an 0535 departure from Dartmouth we managed to hit the tides
just right at all the crucial points, givng us 10kts over the ground as we
passed Portland Bill, and carrying the fair tide all the way to Durlseton head,
where Anne was positioned to wave hello to us (again!). By this time it
was blowing force 6 from astern, and we had a thundering sail past Swanage and
up to Old Harry Rocks..........
![]() Then into Poole Harbour
entrance.........
![]() and finally alongside the waiting berth at PYC,
around 1715. Sarah and Anne were on the jetty to meet us, and
the bubbly bottles started popping agian! A fantastic
feeling!
![]() Today Tom and the skipper have taken the
perishables off AQUILA, and put her on her mooring just off the club.
Well, that's if folks - for now, anyway!. A
big thank you to all of you who have supported us, whether it be in the US,
Bermuda or the UK. It would be invidious to name individuals, but both
friends and family have been incredibly helpful, and it would have all been much
harder and less fun without your encouragement and support. For our part,
it has been fun keeping you informed, knowing that we were able to share
things with you - albeit hard work at times with the boat leaping off
waves! We hope we have not bored you, and allowed you to share some
moments with us.
