Wednesday. We enjoyed a perfect overnight stop in our Ensenade de Barra anchorage. A swim to the shore in 18C calm, clear water, to feel clean white sand underfoot as the sun started its late afternoon descent. Back on board, we then prepared for Aquila’s inaugural barbeque (we’d bought the necessary gear for last year’s exped, but the weather precluded its use). Ken prepped the sardine starter (phot), while the skipper undertook the role of duty stoker (phot). The main course of Pouting had not died in vain (phot) – both starter and main were done to a treat, and all crew declared the barbeque apparatus a resounding success. To cap it all off, Ron produced a theatrical banana Flambé (phot). As the sun went down Aquila lay in perfect peace (phot), and we rounded off the evening with a cockpit showing of ‘Detachment Fever’. Ken was clearly bemused…..!

Thursday: A leisurely start with a cockpit breakfast as the sun rose once more into a clear sky, before weighing anchor and proceeding the five miles to Vigo. We elected to try the Real Club Nautico de Vigo, right in the centre of town (there are 4 to choose from) – and what a find it is. Very friendly staff, the cruise liner MV Queen Victoria moored nearby for the day, a fitness centre and swimming pool at the gate, to say nothing of waterside restaurants etc within a stone’s throw.

All in all, and excellent place for the impending crew change. We RV this evening with Rosalie and Jane, and tomorrow plan a day trip to a beach before returning to this marina in the evening, as Ken’s flight out is at 0645 on Saturday. Peter and Rosalie, and Ron and Jane, all depart Monday morning, while Sarah, Nicky and Hugh join later that day. The skipper best spruce up!
