Saturday 5 July. We blame Trisha and Sian for bringing seriously bad weather with them! It poured all last night, and today, and is still raining (and blowing) as the blog is written! The attached phots say it all….

Despite that, we’ve had a fun day – but what a contrast from yesterday morning! After a very late breakfast (well, the crew deserved a lie-in after all the excitement of yesterday) and consideration of the forecast and options, despite the gloomy view from the cockpit (phot) we decided to brave the elements and further up river to Redon. As we sailed and eventually motored further and further into the hinterland, Aquila felt more and more out of her comfort zone: cows drinking at the bankside (phot), numerous herons fishing, swans and their cygnets, hay bales galore. Lots of rain, and ‘drowned rat’ crew (phots)! And as for those overhead wires – we were too frightened to look up! Through the swing bridge at Cran (phot) – it was fun to pass Brian and Lyn going the other way in their SY 340 – and eventually into the spur that leads into Redon’s marina (phot). There was just enough water….

After a lukewarm cup of tea, the priority was to find a gas supplier – our UK bottles now having fully expired. The visit to the Capitainerie turned out to be the answer to everything; once the dues were settled, he then took us in his car to a large garage where we found a suitable propane bottle. Thanks to ‘Gas Willy’ and his ubiquitous conversion kit, we have a suitable connection adapter! He also took us via the station to check out train times.

The forecast for tomorrow looks much better. But then as Trisha and Sian will depart in the morning, it would wouldn’t it!
