Thursday 17 July. True to the forecasters’ word, by morning the wind had shifted from W round to ENE. Before breaking our fast we weighed and re-anchored in order to put some additional distance between ourselves and a yacht that had decided to anchor uncomfortably close to us the previous night. Having consumed the usual croissants together with the less-frequently available melon we weighed anchor (again) and proceeded up the Aven River for half a mile or so to explore: whilst indubitably picturesque, the skipper did feel that it had been spoiled by a few too many boats! There is no pleasing some people…

Turning around we waved at a couple of future Olympians confidently manning their Optimists (phot), before setting a course towards Sainte Marine, opposite Benodet on the Odet River, a sail of some 20nm due west. Under clear blue skies and in bright sunshine, a following wind of force 3/4 allowed us to make a steady 5+ kts and before too long we were arriving at the entrance to the Odet. We moored up alongside the Sainte Marine marina, where langoustines were consumed with relish before a couple of large thunderstorms (sporting some impressive “mamma” [phot]) passed overhead.

Once the storms had passed we explored the town, booked taxis for the morrow, and enjoyed this crew’s final supper (phot). The skipper particularly revelled in his ‘Gwen ha du’ (phot).
Myf and Ian arrive on Saturday – the plan then will be to make ground to the west and then north through the Raz de Sein and Le Four channel.
