12:30

After setting the clocks forward one hour we left at 11AM and are now on London time.. We were able to sail the first 1 ½ hours, but now we’re in the lee of Pico Island and will motor for a bit to  get clear of it.  It’s a beautiful morning and Horta looked very charming as we left.

20:00

We motored until 18:00 when the wind went NE and we could sail nicely more or less on course.  However that only lasted for a couple of hours as the wind has gone East again and  we’re back on engine.

03/07/10

04:00

Started again sailing at 01:00. The wind is ENE so it’s on the nose. We’re sheeted in hard and only making around 6 knots. Our current course is straight for Ponta Delgada.  We will probably motor over the top of it to avoid getting too far South when the much stronger North North Easterlies  arrive in a couple of days.

It’s a dry clear moonlit night.

06:00

The wind goes East and drops to Force 2-3, so I wake up  the engine and go to bed.

11:00

Wind is East Force 2. Still motoring, we probably won’t get  wind until tomorrow.

We’re passing Ponta Delgada which is 35 miles long.  Yesterday’s run only 160 miles, 9 1/2 hours sailing slowly and the rest motoring.  974 to go.
