Sunday was a no Sun day and the whales took the day off; I thought they’d
gone but heard them again late last night. Demetra and I drove to yet
another chasm by the sea, a 20 minute walk through the woods to the
descent. The landscape and rock formation in extremely unusual.
We thought it was raining lightly in the forest but I think it was bits of
sea spray travelling inland from the exposed side of the island. Winds
were reported to be 35 gusting 40 knots.

On the way back we stopped at an organic farm with 140 acres of Noni
trees, a bizarre looking fruit from which they extract a vile tasting
juice ( a bit like blue cheese) which is deemed to be an excellent
anti-oxidant. They ferment it for 12 weeks first. It some cases it is
claimed to check the spread of tumours by inhibiting the development of
blood vessels which spread the cancer.

It was a rainy night but has cleared for the moment. We’re off to snorkel
with the whales again. I will post this now as when we come back we will
leave shortly for Tonga which is about 1 ½ day sail. Northwesterlies are
expected here in a couple of days which would make these moorings
untenable, so it’s time to go.

I enclose some snaps from yesterday and a couple of stills Demetri pulled
from the video.
