24/7/08 01:00

The wind went SSW and we started sailing at 22:00 having motored for 4 hours.  At least the batteries are charged.  It’s a warm moonlit night although there was a little rain earlier. Our destination, Suwarrow is one of the Northern Cook Islands and is another 600 miles. There’s no local population, just a care taker couple in residence for eight months a year. There was a New Zealander who lived alone there from 1952 to 1977 as a sort of modern day Robinson Crusoe. It has been declared a National Marine Park and we look forward to a few days there.

12:00

We sailed until 06:45 this morning when the wind died again.   It’s been SSW Force 2 since which is a good direction but not enough to sail at more than 2 knots. It is very warm and sunny and we are just passing “Motu One.”  We don’t have a detailed enough chart to attempt an entry. We are 185 miles from Bora Bora and 520 from Suwarrow

Russell has nearly plowed through the big pile of books he brought so we are topping up his reading list  from the boat library.

I enclose some snaps from Bora Bora, including Demetri and Russell on a Dive Kayak (designed to hold scuba gear) belonging to Night Wind in the second picture with the old Yacht Club in the background.
