20/6/08  18:00

The Gendarme wasn’t there and the Post Office closed at 2:30 so we’re not checked and we have no local currency.

The afternoon was spent dropping the main sail.  It is now in two pieces and a lot of the stitching is rotten.  The trysail has been rigged in the mainsail position, it remains to be seen weather it will be any actual use like that, and at least it will keep the furling gear from banging around in the mast.  This was not a job that could have been done at sea, it was hard enough

Mid afternoon we noticed a lot of jelly fish around the boat.  Sometime later the DC Generator stopped.  Steve then started the AC Generator and a few minutes later it stopped.  We eventually found they had both been stopped by jelly fish being sucked up into the cooling water intake.  Both intake filters were full of jelly.  He’s cleaned the filters but it could happen any time again.  In fact while writing this one of the generators has stopped again.  This is really annoying because while working on the sail all afternoon we used a lot of battery power working the furler back and forth.  And now the second generator has sucked up another jelly fish

The generator jelly fish routine went on another 6 times last night.  We then ran the engine in reverse which seemed to push the jelly fish away.  We were able to charge for a while.  We then shut down as much as possible so the charge would last the night.

Both the fridge and freezer cooling water circulation pumps have failed but this does not seem to be related to the jelly fish. Steve has spent the morning trying to rebuild at least one of them.  They were full of barnacles and the freezer pump was seized. The fridge pump had been replaced only a few months ago.

15:00

Steve has spent hours with the pumps. No joy yet.  Today’s just been a puttering around on the boat day so far.  We’ll start to be tourists tomorrow.  It of course has clouded over this afternoon and is raining lightly.

The Fleet is not seeing any satellites at the moment so I will send this  via Iridium, the very slow connection.
