The weather has deteriorated a bit as a front is coming through later, and there will be thunder storm activity in New York and the approach tonight and Friday morning, and the headwinds are stronger than thought at first. It should clear Friday afternoon and the wind should go South so it seemed sensible to stay another day in Cape May.

I went for a long walk today.  Cape May was declared an Historic Site in the 70s and therefore eligible for  federal funding to rebuilt all the Victorian Houses which were falling apart.  They were bought for very little and rebuilt with no or low interest loans from the government and then sold on at huge profits.  Once it got rolling many New Yorkers bought everything up, and today there are immaculate lawns and gardens and everything looks new.  The mock Victorian Architecture is really bizarre.

I had forgotten where the Playhouse had been  and it took some time to find a local who was old enough to remember it.  Eventually I found a 73 year old Beach Pass Inspector  who pointed my in the right direction.  I looked at the corner of  Madison and New Jersey Streets, but it was probably the parking lot a little way up New Jersey St.  I should have taken a shot from the parking lot to across the street where  The Company House we all stayed in was located., but I didn’t think of it until after I got back to the boat.

When we were here in the 60s you could party and barbeque on the beach.  That’s no longer allowed.  The Beach Pass costs $25/year and is used to pay for keeping the several miles of nearly white sand clean.

I’ll attach some examples of the Disneyesque Victoriana.
