Thursday 7 Pm. This flying fish business has gone too far.  I’m sitting in the cockpit just after sundown sipping a dry martini (stirred not shaken) and a flying fish lands in my lap.  I’m sitting Starboard and he came from port leaving scales everywhere.

Nik was playing “We will Rock You” at the time.  He’s the only 19 year old I’ve ever met who actually turns the music down.

Friday 30/11/07 we arrived in the harbour at 6AM and on the advice of the Port Pilot anchored to await clearance.  We anchored amongst other yachts and as I was backing down on the anchor we picked up a semi submerged rope on the rudder and in the end Steve had to dive to clear it.

By now we had lost count of the number of flying fish on deck.

A local called “Louis” was swimming to the boats to offer his services to help get diesel etc.  We politely thanked him and said we didn’t want any help. Later I went to clear in and as I was coming of the Port Police Office on the way to immigration, he lying in wait.  He followed, chatted and produced letters from other yachts recommending his services.  I’ve seen him 3 times so far today and while I feel sorry for him we don’t need a constant companion.

This new marina is still under development but is excellent.  Very Sheltered and protected.  The docks and services are in and the infrastructure around it is on the way. We have to get used to the boat not actually leaping about. I slept for nearly 4 hours this afternoon.  Bliss.

We will probably stay until Monday as everything closes on Sunday here.

For the record on the way from Gran Canaria, we averaged 191.52 miles per day at an average speed of 7.98 knots.  We motored for about 8 ½ hours total.
