The weather’s been so lousy the past week, I’ve been too grumpy to write the blog.

Demetri did manage go do a shark dive in the grey gloom and got some very interesting video footage and we had a few decent Indian meals.

The bad news is that Demetra left for London on Thursday. The good news is that she seems to have taken all the grey and rain with her. It seems unfair but we’re now having a real taste of sun and warmth. Friday night rolled around again and Demetri tried unsuccessfully to defend his pool title as he went out in the quarterfinals. Steve made it to the final and just when we thought we might get another case of beer he lost to our old friend Peter.

Checking out of Suva entails full paperwork as though you were leaving the country. When we finally get to Lautoka we will have to do a full check in again.

Late this morning (Saturday) the tide rose enough for us to slip away from The Royal Suva Yacht Club, home of drunken expats and philanderers. We are going about 30 miles to Yanuca Island which is reputed top have a very nice well protected anchorage and one small resort. Predictably the 10-15 knots of wind there is, is from the SSW which is, surprise surprise, directly on the nose. Ho hum.

We motored the 32 miles and have just dropped the anchor. It is very peaceful here and we are the only yacht.

The Sat Com doesn’t work here. To combat this I bought a Vodafone 3G device with the promise that anywhere in Fiji there was a mobile signal I would be able to connect. Well there is a signal here but of course I can’t connect. I will have to try to send this via Iridium which means no pictures for a few days.
