This morning we motored another 20 odd miles along the coast of Savii to Asau Bay.

We had a tourist map which showed a tree canopy walk about 10 kilometres away.  We went ashore hoping to find a taxi and discovered that there are none.   We thought to hike to a resort across the bay in the hope they might be able to organize an expedition to the rain forest.

Fortunately a min-van stopped with a local family and they took us all the way to the canopy walk, waited for us and brought us back to the boat.  We were out of Talas (local currency) and were able to pay with dollars as the post office where you can change money was closed.  The actual experience was a bit of an anticlimax but it was interesting climbing up the staircase built around a huge banyan tree to the top of the canopy.  The locals were very sweet.  This girl lives in New Zealand and was home for Fathers Day.  She was the only daughter and has 6 or 7 brothers.  She couldn’t quite remember the exact number.
