19:30

We passed the halfway mark at 18:15. 953 miles to go.  The sun obliged by deigning to shine on us at that moment, we were also passed be a group of show off dolphins who cavorted 50 meters from the boat for a few minutes. Adam is making a Delia Lasagne so dinner is a little late tonight.

The wind is now pushing us a bit too far South so when dinner settles down we’ll have to tack.

20:10

The Wind is now East Force 2 and we can’t make much progress on either tack so we unfurl the engine and furl the yankee.  We’ll motor for a while to see what develops.  It may be that we motor for a day or so before a very useful South Westerly air stream arrives.

06:00

The Lasagne was definitely worth waiting for.

The grey is back, but the wind is continuing to clock , its now SE, still on the nose  but only Force 3. Between the wind and some adverse current we’re motoring into it at only 6.4 knots. The temperature has increased several degrees and it’s not the biting cold it was yesterday.  The wind is meant to go South by 17:00 and SW later this evening and we should have a really good ride the rest of the way to Horta.

08:00

We now have different shades of grey, and even the odd crack of blue.  Maybe the grey soup we’re been in is going down the drain...

12:00

The odd cracks of blue have disappeared .Wind is SSE Force 5, and we are motoring into 25 knots apparent. The sea is up a bit and it’s not amazingly comfortable.  The foredeck is pretty wet.

16:00

We just had a large whale surface a hundred metres from the boat but by the time we got the cameras out he was far astern and all I got was a bit of foam.

We are still banging into the sea –SSE Force 6--and our 24 hour run was down to 157 miles, 20 hours of which was under engine.  816 to go.
