Demetra has always wanted to check out Andros so this seemed a perfect opportunity. We spent a couple of days here and took a 33 kilometer taxi ride to Gauvrion.  The driver was vey chatty and we learned that although there are 64 villages on the island the population has dropped to  approx 5500. No young people are staying.  There is also a huge refuse problem as the dump site  the island was using collapsed into the sea two years ago and has been closed down.  They can’t seem to agree where to have a new spot.   We then went to Batsi a  tourisrty  town for lunch. The  drive through the mountains was spectacular. Andros is very green and has an unlimited water supply which the locals take for granted.  There is a lot of waste.
