15:00

The squall which came through a couple of hours ago seems to have hoovered up all the wind.

It’s currently WSW Force 3 (barely) and I’ve nearly turned the engine on.  But as we’ve just gone from 3 knots up to 5 knots I’ll wait a while longer.

19:00

Well we didn’t motor.  We’ve been ghosting along sometimes at 4-5 knots but mostly 5-6 knots.  The wind is currently West Force 3.  The new moon is up and there are stars to port and clouds to starboard.

The impellor change on the DC generator didn’t do the trick so Steve has had to change the water pump.  The old one can be rebuilt.

22:00

Wind has gone to bed.  WSW/SW Force 2.  So  after a half and hour of slopping about and flogging the sails, reluctantly I turn on the engine.

22:30

The Gods just dumped an amazing down pour on us which lasted for about 10 minutes.  I didn’t have to worry about having too much sail up as the Yankee was furled and the main double reefed.   I’m going to let the next parade of squalls through and then decide what to do.

23:30

The parade has passed and the wind is back West Force 4 so we’re sailing again.

Sailed on nicely through the night. Dawn brought a dull sunrise and lots of blue sky. The wind is a helpful NW Force 4 and we’re currently making over 8 knots.

13:00

Squalls have all passed for the moment and we’re currently making 9 knots in a WNW Force 4 just forward of the beam with no real sea.  So it’s very smooth.  Yesterday’s run was a moderate 176 miles with  90 minutes of engine time.  760 miles to go. The Nav program has been giving us an ETA of 1 June for the last few days.  I’m beginning to think it might happen, as we are very nearly 2/3s of the way.
