6/7/08  21:00

We uppped anchor at 20:30.  The dive  shop was located in a up market hotel a few miles further down the atoll so we took the boat there earlier this afternoon to have dinner before leaving but they were totally booked and no amount of cajoling  the chef would  persuade them to feed us; so we ate onboard.

We left at 20:30 and motored to the pass.  When we got there the tide was in full ebb and although the  wind was not against the tide there was a severe tidal rip and we bounced around a bit in the several knots of current and some short steep seas.  Fortunately the waves showed up on the radar  over a mile away and we were prepared for the onslought. Once clear we set sail and  are moving along nicely with the wind just behind the beam.

8/7/08 10:00

Quiet peaceful night followed by another glorious sunny day.  No need to touch the sails as the trade winds shunter on; a very consistent Easterly 15/20 knots.

12:00

We’ve done a 106 miles since last night and have another 145 to go, so we should be in Papeete fairly early tomorrow morning.
